Studies have demonstrated that decreased amounts are present in aged skin and that topically applied HA accelerates wound repair. Other studies have noted epidermal regeneration after the application of low molecular weight HA."
What are Silicones?^TM
The skin is a living organ. Some of its functions include protection, sensation, fluid regulation, and the elimination of wastes and toxins. Most skin care products contain silicone-bases. Silicones are plastic-based polymers used as emollients and thickeners. There are hundreds: Dimethicone, Carbomer and Cyclopentasiloxane (also known as D5, a type of Dry Cleaning fluid) to name a few. Upon initial appearance, the skin looks smooth as the plastic-based polymers fill in the gaps of minor skin imperfections. Health Canada (Ministry of Health, Canada) lists silicones and siloxanes on their March 2007 Cosmetic Ingredient Hotlist. Companies selling products with these ingredients must submit skin sensitivity testing and meet data requirements 90 days pre-sale. Many scientists believe silicones may act like a plastic bag, which may restrict nutrient absorption and impair the functions of the skin as an organ. The skin may then be fooled into thinking it is hydrated. They believe at the cellular level a different picture may emerge. The skin can no longer breathe. Unable to eliminate cellular wastes and toxins, these toxins are re-absorbed. This toxic build-up increases stress, which causes cellular inflammation and cell damage. Cells become congested, dehydrated and bloated with waste that begins to stagnate. Cellular function begins to fail, and supporting skin tissues collapse, which creates changes in blood vessels, and in the lipid, or fat matrix of the skin.

To make matters worse, our skin is covered with salt, which is released when we sweat. Salt is alkaline and alters the protective pH mantle of the skin. Bacterial growth increases. Skin health is influenced by the acid mantle, which acts as a natural protective barrier. The acid mantle neutralizes the chemical effects from bacteria and contaminants that are mainly alkaline in nature. Most cleansers are alkaline, and require the use of a toner to correct the pH of the skin. NaturDerm^TM products do not need a toner; all products including cleansers, are pH correct to maintain the acid mantle.

Poor skin health creates a cyclical state of dehydration, congestion and toxic build-up that is visible. Puffy, dull, dehydrated skin with increased signs of aging, send us running! To compensate, we apply more product that may be alkaline, or change to another product that contains a silicone-base, which perpetuates the conditions of dehydration, congestion, toxic build-up and an unhealthy state of skin function.

Often wonder why you can use a product for a few weeks, love it, and then it seems to stop working? So, you switch to another and at some point it happens again ...sound familiar?

What does hydrophilic balanced^TM mean?^TM
Simply put - it allows the product to pick up more debris. Each NaturDerm^TM product has its own hydrophilic balanced^TM signature. Hydrophilic compounds, like humectants, attract water and are hydrated. Powerful molecular forces of attraction, hydrophilic properties cause surface tension. NaturDerm^TM products are formulated to lower the surface tension on the skin, which allows for maximum product performance.

Fig.1 shows plain water is not effective to remove the soil and debris on the skin.

Do your products pass global preservation requirements?^TM
We prefer preservative free products; however, the super bugs of today, SARS, and Avian Flu have forever changed the view of individual countries and the requirements they put in place to protect consumers.
Preservatives are a common factor between all products. NaturDerm products are paraben and harmful preservative - free.
No preservative is without issue; however, there are better choices. Not all companies list preservative use on labels, if the amount is under 0.05% it is not required. Although NaturDerm is not required to list ingredient usage under the 0.05%, all ingredients used, regardless of amounts, are listed on all product labels and information pages. NaturDermis committed to provide customers with the most effective protection from the least problematic preservatives, in the lowest amounts possible.
What risks exist for preservative-free, or inadequate preserved products? Dangerous ones. Let's look at some of the contamination issues, organisms commonly seen and the physical results.
Health AtoZ writer, Diane Griffith, in her article entitled “Contamination at the Cosmetic Counter”, cited a study done by New Jersey Rowan University professor, Dr. Elizabeth Brooks who tested skin, eye and lip makeup from over 20 cosmetic companies and found molds, fungi, and E.coli.

Brian Perry, PhD in his article entitled, “Cosmetic Microbiology” published in Microbiology Today, Vol. 28/Nov 2001 states, “Organisms commonly isolated from poorly preserved water-based products include Klebsiella, Enterobacter, Staphylococcus and Bacillus species, Pseudomonas, including P. aeruginosa, Burkholderia cepacia, Penicillium and Candida albicans. Gram-negatives are most common and, as they have very diverse metabolic capabilities, can survive in a wide range of environments. They are often introduced through water supplies.”
The decision then becomes one of which preservatives do we use?
Only Iodopropynyl Butylcarbamate (IPBC), and Methyl and Propyl Paraben preservatives pass global approval for product stability and product preservation for 12 months. Although Methyl and Propyl Parabens can be derived from natural sources, the majority of companies who utilize parabens use petrochemical based parabens. Valid concern remains both in the scientific communities, and the public with the possible hormonal influence on the body from Paraben use.

Preservatives like Phenoxyethanol, which is associated with high irritation/allergic reactions, and Hydroxymethylglycinates, which often react to essential oils and have a tendency to break down into formaldehyde, also make products waxy. Behentrimonium Methylsulfate is an ammonia based preservative and irritant. TEA and DEA (Tri and Diethanolamines) are known mutagenic compounds. Several high-end natural based skin care lines use Benzyl Benzoate, stating in the company information that it is a natural preservative in essential oils. Benzyl Benzoate is actually an organic compound that is added to the essential oil to keep it from turning rancid. Benzyl Benzoate is also an insecticide and a fixative. Butylphenyl Methylpropional is another harsh chemical preservative, and known skin irritant, whose original use was to deodorize carpets.
These preservatives are also neutralizers, and are used in higher amounts, which can negate the effects of anti-aging ingredients.

All NaturDerm products are now preserved with low levels of Iodopropynyl Butylcarbamate. Iodopropynyl Butylcarbamate (IPBC) is recommended for use at less than 0.02% of the formulation, NaturDerm products use less than one fourth of that amount. IPBC is the preservative of choice for most natural products, and is commonly used in baby products.

I want you to know that I think Epidermx II is AWESOME!! At first I wasn't sure I liked it. But, after using it only two nights, I was amazed at the difference in the texture of my skin and the disappearance of fine lines. I have always taken very good care of my skin but, since I am almost 60, I have to deal with fine lines around my eyes and lips and a little sagging skin. My skin felt tighter right away. I have always had a problem with skin tags around my neck and the Epidermx really helped smooth them out but the Epidermx II has made them all but disappear! Having had problem skin all my life. My skin was always waxy, oily,blemished, and fields of blackheads were a curse I was embarassed to have to bear. Wrinkles and lines began to form at an early age making me look much older than I felt. I was also born with a severe crease in my forehead caused by the muscles in my brow forming too tightly; and I look as if 
I am in a deep frown all the time-even when I smile. I discussed a remedy with a plastic surgeon and he said I would need to have my entire forehead peeled down, have the muscles examined, and cut them away from the brow. After healing from that they would have to address the remaining impressions in my skin. I was told it may always look like I had a problem there even after they took out the muscle because of how long the skin was folded in that position. As we age the surface layer of dead skin cells, which is intended to be shed, and is part of the epidermis, becomes hard and compacted. In the Oct/Nov 2007 issue of Modern Bride Magazine, Beauty Director, Mary Clark underwent microdermabrasion treatments by NYC Dermatologist Amy Wechsler, MD.
